National Honor Society Rules and Regulations
I. Expectations
All members must maintain the high standards of National Honor Society by remaining
active in organizations and demonstrating positive leadership in all aspects of student life.
Members must also comply with the requirements and regulations described in the following
paragraphs.
II. Attendance
Members are required to attend all NHS meetings. For an excused absence, the
member must complete the Absence form, including the mandatory verification signature.
Without the signature, the absence is not considered excused. More than three unexcused absences will result in a member being asked to leave NHS.
III. Service
All members must perform 20 hours of documented community service each year. At
least 10 hours must be completed by December 15th. Submit the Service Verification Form at the end of each semester. Members who do not have evidence of service on a monthly basis will be put on probation. If a member fails to comply, the member may be dismissed from NHS.
In addition, all members are required to participate in any group service project that is
sponsored by the NHS.
IV. Disciplinary Action
A. Character: Any violation of school rule/policy may lead to direct dismissal from
National Honor Society.
B. Scholarship: Any student falling below the 3.25 grade point average will be on
academic probation for one semester and will be required to obtain a 3.5 by the end of that
calendar school year. Failure to maintain a 3.25 g.p.a. by May of that year will result in dismissal.
C. Appeals: All appeals to dismissal are in written form, and they will be evaluated by
the faculty selection committee, as per the National Honor Society code of conduct.
V. Dues
The PHS new membership Fee of $40 (a one time fee)
is required at the time of acceptance as an NHS member. If a member fails to comply, the
member may be dismissed from NHS.
